GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER – Offshore design and consultancy
CDS Recruitment have a client who are experts in geotechnical design and consultancy services to the offshore oil and gas and renewable sectors.
We are looking for a geotechnical engineer to carry out studies from data collected offshore. The role is based at in the office, with very little need for offshore visits.
Location: London or Newcastle
Salary: Circa £35,000
Basic Function: The role of the geotechnical engineer is to work alongside and support senior staff, in taking projects from conception, bid stage, through to completion and delivery to the client. Some projects, such as jack up analyses, are often required to be turned around in 24hrs, whilst other projects, may go on for a number of months.
Projects can vary from geotechnical design of e.g. foundations, scour assessment, to cable routing and burial assessments. The majority of projects are will initially be desk based; however, the role is anticipated to allow to develop to allow for opportunity to face with clients.
a) Support the Engineering Director and senior staff in the preparation of geotechnical studies, designs and reports
b) Conduct data assessments and geotechnical analyses under supervision
c) Assist with the preparation of geotechnical study reports or prepare reports for review where appropriate
d) Maintain time and project records
e) Proactively develop technical skills in accordance with the needs of the job and the agreed personal development plan. Seek help or guidance when knowledge gaps arise
f) Support continued professional development, attendance at conferences, publishing works, and presenting, and also attending training courses that you feel would enhance your capabilities and the capabilities of the company.
a) Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology, or closely related subject supported by further academic study or practical experience in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology in the offshore sector, with 1-3 years’ experience.
b) Knowledge of ground investigation, geotechnical engineering and geological processes.
f) Demonstrable experience working in an engineering environment, specifically in the offshore sector.
g) Experience of offshore foundation design. Soil-structure integration, jack up leg penetration assessment, trenching assessments, Cable Burial Risk Assessment (CBRA), Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA)
h) Active participation/graduate membership of a professional organization such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society, Society for Underwater Technology.
i) Working knowledge of proprietary software for geotechnical analysis, such as PLAXIS, GIS, GRL WEAP.
j) Knowledge of ArcGIS and Global Mapper
